Anyone here using Advocate flea treatment and also thinking about nutrition angles? I’m super new to this and curious if what I feed could help (or accidentally interfere) with how a topical works and how my pet feels after.
- Do any foods or supplements interact with topical imidacloprid/moxidectin, or is that only a concern with oral meds?
- Could boosting skin/coat nutrition (omega-3s, vitamin E, zinc, biotin, quality protein) reduce post-application itchiness or help the product spread better on the skin?
- Does dietary fat level change sebum production enough to affect how well a topical distributes? Anyone notice differences on low-fat vs fish-oil-heavy diets?
- Since Advocate also targets some internal parasites, can die-off cause mild tummy upset? If so, would planning a day or two of a bland diet or adding probiotics around application actually help, or is that just overkill?
- Are there any evidence-based “flea-deterring” nutrients (brewer’s yeast/B-vitamins, etc.), or are those mostly myths?
- For pets prone to skin sensitivity, is it worth adjusting the diet (e.g., more omega-3s or a different protein source) in the weeks you apply it, or is that unlikely to matter?
- Any food or topical-on-coat products I should avoid on application day (oily treats, coconut oil grooming, fish-oil rubbed on coat) so it doesn’t mess with absorption?
Would love both science-y explanations and real-world experiences. Trying to set up a routine that keeps fleas away and my pet’s skin happy without throwing money at useless supplements.
