I’m starting to question the whole “vitamins for older dogs” bandwagon that seems to have taken over our feeds recently. Throughout my years watching trends in pet nutrition, I’ve seen supplements pushed as vital without solid, long-term studies really backing their benefits.
For example, do we have compelling evidence that supplementing vitamins—especially the ones commonly recommended—indeed improves life quality or longevity in senior dogs? Or are these just marketing tactics from companies eager to snag a slice of our pet care budgets? Most of these vitamins seem to be extrapolated from studies on younger animals or even lab rats, rather than evidence gathered from our aging companions.
Given that many balanced commercial diets already include necessary micronutrients, should we be doubting the convenience of over-the-counter “miracle” vitamins? Or is there a subset of vitamins worth considering for dogs with specific health conditions? I’m curious if anyone has dug into peer-reviewed research or seen measurable outcomes from these products.
Looking forward to a frank, no-nonsense discussion on this—let’s separate fact from hype.
