In reviewing current literature on pet nutrition, I am interested in exploring the evidence-based application of dietary supplements in both canine and feline diets. Specifically, what are the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics underlying common supplements—such as omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, glucosamine, and chondroitin—in terms of bioavailability, metabolic impact, and synergistic or antagonistic interactions with conventional pet diets? Additionally, I would like to understand the clinical criteria that should guide the recommendation of these supplements across different life stages and health conditions. Are there recent findings that clarify the benefit-risk ratio for the long-term use of these supplements in preventing or managing chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, gastrointestinal disorders, or cognitive decline in aging pets?
