I keep seeing more brands push urinary tract supplements for dogs-powders, chews, cranberry “treats,” etc. Are these products actually necessary for most dogs? Vets I trust rarely recommend them beyond specific medical issues, yet marketing makes it seem like every dog needs something for UTI prevention.
Do these supplements have strong evidence behind them for general canine urinary health, or are they mostly a way for companies to profit off pet owner worries? Have any of you seen real improvement in dogs with chronic urinary issues after using these? Would love to hear thoughts, especially from those who are skeptical or have tried going without them.
Also, are there risks to supplementing when a balanced diet and proper hydration might be enough for most pets?
